ABOUT US

Certified Diamonds

Mak & Co. offers certified GIA and IGI diamonds, ensuring authenticity and quality. These certifications verify the diamond's authenticity, providing detailed assessments of cut, colour, clarity, and carat weight, guaranteeing clients receive genuine and accurately graded stones.

What is a GIA graded diamond?

Various diamond grading labs exist globally, yet none match the reputation of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Their stringent grading standards guarantee top-notch quality in GIA certified diamonds, carefully documenting each characteristic and imperfection. Each GIA diamond undergoes dual grading by different assessors, ensuring precise evaluations of cut, clarity, colour, and carat. These certified diamonds bear a unique microscopic inscription correlating with the accompanying certificate, affirming the diamond’s traits and quality.

What is the GIA?

The GIA, or Gemological Institute of America, stands as a premier diamond certification lab globally, renowned for its top-tier grading standards.

“GIA is a public benefit, non-profit organisation that conducts research and offers education and laboratory services to help protect the public by providing unbiased information about gems and jewellery.” - GIA

Unlike some jewellers or less reputable grading labs, the GIA, being a nonprofit, ensures impartial grading without artificially inflating a diamond's grade to increase its value.

"Rely on the GIA as the most trusted and impartial diamond graders globally. Choose a GIA-certified diamond for enduring quality."

What is a GIA diamond report?

Each GIA-certified diamond includes a comprehensive report approved by the GIA. This report bears a unique code that is inscribed onto the diamond's girdle, visible only under magnification. It covers the 4Cs—cut, color, clarity, and carat weight—along with specifics like measurements and clarity characteristics.

“A GIA report contains a full scientific and unbiased assessment of your diamond's 4Cs. GIA tests every diamond submitted to establish its authenticity as a
diamond and whether it's been subjected to treatments.” - GIA

GIA diamond codes

Each GIA-certified diamond at Mak & Co. undergoes a discreet laser inscription, holding a unique code visible only under intense magnification. This personalised mark acts as a silent assurance, guaranteeing that the diamond nestled in your ring precisely matches its GIA certificate. While imperceptible to the naked eye, this delicate inscription on the stone's girdle, viewable under 50x magnification, serves as a testament to its authenticity. We ensure ease of access to this code during the ring's creation, offering you peace of mind when collecting your ring or following any maintenance.

At Mak & Co., we make it a point to reveal and verify your diamond's exclusive GIA code, allowing you to confirm its alignment with the certificate and ensuring the diamond's originality.

CONSULTATIONS

Are you prepared to explore a curated selection of diamonds chosen specifically for you?

Are GIA diamonds more expensive to others?

GIA diamonds might not be more expensive, but their strict grading criteria can create that perception. The truth is, you often get the exact quality you pay for with a GIA diamond. Consider a GIA-certified 1ct D VS2 Triple Excellent diamond compared to a similarly graded non-GIA diamond. While the non-GIA diamond might appear cheaper, it might not actually match its stated grades. It could be overgraded to boost its value, which isn't the case with GIA, known for their impartial and precise grading as a non-profit entity. In essence, GIA diamonds don't inherently cost more when compared for similar quality.

Where can you buy GIA diamonds?

Trusted jewellers consistently offer GIA-certified diamonds. At Mak & Co., our natural diamonds always come with GIA certification, and we never perform in-house diamond grading. This commitment assures you that the diamond you purchase matches its documented grades, providing peace of mind. If you're considering lab diamonds, we suggest IGI graded stones for their comprehensive reporting, offering more detail than
current GIA lab diamond reports.

Should you only buy GIA certified diamonds?

When it comes to natural diamonds, we stand by the superior quality and assurance of GIA-certified stones. Their detailed reports and stringent grading ensure top-notch value for your purchase. For lab-grown diamonds, our recommendation leans towards IGI certified options. While the GIA focuses more on natural diamonds, the IGI shines in its precision and accuracy in assessing lab-grown stones, making it a reliable choice for those seeking quality in created diamonds.
